grammar 101 for baseball

brian and i went to the Rockies game the other night; the night, in fact, that Barry Bonds broke the record. Barry has nothing to do with this post though, that was just a side comment.

all i want to say is that i discovered something about baseball that makes me want to twitch. i was enjoying the game when i happened to glance over at the big screen only to see this phrase: "Flied to Left". i shook it off and figured it was some baseball term i didn't know. then i looked over again to see "Flied to center". it then occured to me that they were recapping where the ball went. i asked brian, "shouldn't that say 'Flew to center'?" he paused and said, "huh. probably. i never thought about it before."

just because it's a popular sport they shouldn't be able to get away with such a heinous (and i use 'heinous' just for dramatic effect; i'm not THAT worked up about it) grammatical error. it's America's sport... and America, last time i checked, is supposed to be an educated country.

but that's just me.

    ok, just last night, lafawnduh was watching baseball with me and asked what the difference is between a sacrifice hit and a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly, and i got to explain to her all about 6-4-3 and a line out and a fly out and the strategy for fielding a slowly hit foul ball.

    i love baseball. and never even considered what the proper past tense of fly ball is. you're deep.

so i heard about this thing going around the blog world where you go to 'google' and type in your name followed by the word 'needs', example: "Jaime Needs" and see what comes up...i decided i wanted to join the bandwagon because, well, it made me chuckle...plus, it's nice to know what all the other Jaime's of the world need; or at least what their friends writing about them think they need. now, without further adieu, here is my list (i especially like #6): 1. February 16, 2011: I call this one "Life is not fair". I have been summonsed twice since living in Westminster so when I saw this in the mailbox my heart sunk...until I saw BRIAN'S name on it! Yay! When he came home I was all giddy when I showed it to him and said, "It's about time!" Turns out his court date is March 28th and we'll be in Vegas for my 30th birthday. How does he always get off so easy?! Life is not fair in this house. Humph.
