Don't Let Glamour Dies

Image
I’ve never been much of a girly-girl (I usually just barely “get by”) but today I’m going to share my latest beauty secret. Let me begin by saying that I have some of the greasiest hair this side of the Mississippi. I have been a slave to washing my hair every day for as long as I can remember. If I don’t, my hair likes to shout to the world, “Hey! Look! She didn’t wash me! Look how gross I am! I’m a jerk!” It has become a stress trigger for me. If I go somewhere and find out there aren’t showers I immediately start my deep breathing exercises to calm myself down, especially if I don’t have a hat. Call me vain but greasy hair is embarrassing. And when you’ve lived with it for as long as I have, and have had good friends accidentally blurt out “ew” when they see your hair, or ask you when you had time to take a quick shower because it looks so wet, you get pretty self-conscious. I do have to give myself props- I survived a summer at an adventure camp where we only showered about o...

Skookie Monster

DISCLAIMER: Writing is how I cope with my life and I am very close to my cats. This post is a total indulgence for me and you have my permission to skip it. I have a cat and her name is Skookum and she's sick. Skookum is actually always sick. I feel like I'm always sending my mom a text that says,  "Pray for Skookum; something is wrong".  I've always joked that as sick as she is, she would live to be 22 years old and cost us a fortune. Right after we first got her, she ate some painters tape and then she threw it up, got really sick, and almost died. Skeletor Skookum- on the brink of death 2006 Then we got her de-clawed (yes, we're horrible cat torturers) and when she came home from the surgery, she had a cough. We took her to the vet and he said it was irritation from the breathing tube and gave us some antibiotics. The cough never really went away and we learned that if you gently massaged her throat for a bit, the coughing spell wou...

Camping This Weekend: Aspen's Silver Bell

Image
This weekend we headed to Aspen to camp near the Maroon Bells. Aspen. Where the beer flows like wine and where Mother Nature will suddenly turn off the heat without warning. I'm not exaggerating on the temperature change. One second we were enjoying a nice warm day and just one second later, my teeth were chattering. In order to not be entirely lazy, we hiked up to Crater Lake. A nice hike and full of nature's eye candy. By the time we got there and set up camp on Friday, the sun was down. Tricky lighting for me and my illiteracy with this camera but I still liked the reflection. Another attempt. View from our campsite. Silver Bell #6 We liked the spot. The Maroon Creek is just down past our blue water container. Inviting, right? Maroon Creek just below our camp site. I really love when we get a site with white noise. On our way to hike up to Crater Lake. The sky was perfectly blue.   Crater Lake   ...
